Teachers know how to test for student progress The teacher understands and uses formal and informal assessment strategies to evaluate and ensure the continuous intellectual, social, and physical development of the pupil.
Evidence 1: Grant Project Assignment 2: Evaluation and Dissemination
Rationale 1: This grant project was written for my 4th grade Spanish students and I am actually completing the project with my students. As the evaluation portion of my grant describes, I use a variety of formal and informal assessment strategies with my students, from surveys, anecdotal, observational, and performance assessments as well as formal written assessments to evaluate my students learning and to help me plan effective instruction.
Planning and using a variety of assessment tools has helped me to become a more effective educator. I have learned to assess my students in a variety of ways, always helping me to focus my instruction as necessary to help my students be successful in my class.
Using a variety of assessment tools has allowed my students to shine in many ways. For example, some students do great with formal written assessments, while others shine with performance assessments. All of these assessments demonstrate my students’ strengths and weaknesses and help to drive my instruction to meet each student’s needs.
KSD
8.K.2 The teacher knows how to select, construct, and use assessment strategies and instruments appropriate to the learning outcomes being evaluated and to other diagnostic purposes.
My creation and use of the rubric for the performance assessment of my students’ final multimedia project demonstrates that I can effectively create and use an assessment strategy to assesses the learning outcomes of my students for this project.
8.S.1 The teacher appropriately uses a variety of formal and informal assessment techniques (e,g, observation, portfolios of student work, teacher-made tests, performance tasks, projects, students self-assessments, peer assessment, and standardized tests) to enhance her or his knowledge of learners, evaluate students’ progress and performances, and modify teaching and learning strategies.
In the evaluation portion of my grant proposal I explain how I will use a wide variety of assessment techniques to evaluate my students’ learning. These assessments will help to determine lessons that need to be taught, or retaught to help my students effectively communicate with our pals from Ecuador.
8.D.2 The teacher is committed to using assessment to identify student strengths and promote student growth rather than to deny students access to learning opportunities.
All of my 4th grade students, regardless of their abilities, strengths or weaknesses will have the opportunity to participate in this grant project. One of the things I am doing to help the students with lower communicative abilities is to partner them up with another student from the class so the students can offer support and assistance to one another as we use Kidblog and Skype with our pals.
